Food Glossary
The Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) is an European official recognition that provides protection for an agrifood product from a place or region and, exceptionally, from a country, having a specific quality, reputation or other characteristic that can be attributed to its geographical origin and which is produced, processed or prepared in the named area. In this case, unlike PDOs, it is not necessary for all three of these processes to take place inside the area, only one of them.
